Hooker 教授（1924 年 10 月 12 日 – 1991 年 7 月 4 日）率先利用遺傳學技術發掘有抗病蟲害能力的作物品種，在其 40 年的工作生涯共發展出 1,000 多種糧食作物抗病品種，為現代分子育種技術奠下深厚的基礎。他更曾在 1964 年獲頒 Guggenheim Fellowships Award 的 Plant Sciences 殊榮，其研發的抗病品種到現在也還是世界許多地方的重要糧食作物。
