Hooker 教授（1924 年 10 月 12 日 – 1991 年 7 月 4 日）率先利用遗传学技术发掘有抗病虫害能力的作物品种，在其 40 年的工作生涯共发展出 1,000 多种粮食作物抗病品种，为现代分子育种技术奠下深厚的基础。他更曾在 1964 年获颁 Guggenheim Fellowships Award 的 Plant Sciences 殊荣，其研发的抗病品种到现在也还是世界许多地方的重要粮食作物。
