Global Research & Industry Alliance (GloRIA) of Taipei Medical University and the Business Development Department with its related technical team went to Singapore from August 29th to 31st to participate in the exhibition, Medical Fair Asia 2018which organized by Messe Düsseldorf Asia Pte. Ltd. GloRIA is looking to demonstrate its technology internationally and partnership through this event.

Medical Fair Asia 2018 is one of the largest equipment exhibitions in Asia, which held every two years. It has entered the 12th year this year. With total more than 1,050 manufacturers and academic organizations from North America, Asia Pacific, China, and Middle East. More than 40 countries display contents including medical equipment, dental equipment, diagnostic equipment, medical supplies, surgical equipment, rehabilitation equipment, accessories, and advanced products, which also attract professionals from all fields to participate.

From Medical Technologies, Root Canal Filling Material, θ waveform to Cloud System, GLoRIA Showcasing Its Technology Highlights.

The team of Global Research & Industry Alliance (GloRIA) of Taipei Medical University and Metal Industries Research & Development Centre jointly held the “Business Opportunity Matchmaking for International Experience Marketing in Singapore (Medical Device)”. This exposition moderated by Professor Chen Shiqing, the vice dean of the medical university and the director of the assistive device center. As a keynote speaker, he shared the possible cooperation opportunities and prospects in the future of Taiwanese academia in Singapore medical market.

Some of the medical technologies exhibited by Taipei Medical University are well-developed and can be applied to the industrial application. First is the exhibition of Taipei Medical University Assistive Device Center by Professor Chen Shiqing, which promote Taiwan’s innovative medical products and equipment to the international market.

The second is the calcium phosphate composite material and the new rapid root canal filling material, developed by the director of the Institute of Nanomedical Engineering, Yang Zhengchang. This material shortens the curing time and reduce the subsequent inflammatory conditions. It can not only improve the success rate of dental implants but also apply to general dental care and dental caries prevention. Therefore, it has been favored by many manufacturers and discussed further collaborative development and technology transfer.

The third is the development and application of the θ waveform trans-cranial direct current stimulator in the rehabilitation treatment developed by Professor Peng Zhiwei of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. It is different from the Direct Current type which used for the stroke patients. Patients can directly wear it on the head, regulated by the central nervous system, which can improve the flexibility of the brain, accelerate rehabilitation treatment, enhance their self-care ability. Moreover, many operators and doctors amazingly express further opinions to develop more applications.

The last is the cloud monitoring and analysis system for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, developed by the Institute of Medical Information Director Guo Bozhao. The system can instantly detect and upload data to the cloud through a portable pulse oximeter and mobile phone. It can measure the number of pauses in a night and the level of anoxia each time when people sleep at home because apnea causes a decrease in oxyhemoglobin saturation. Also, the system’s test results are consistent with the results measured by millions of instruments. Therefore, in response to the results, many Singapore medical hospitals and care centers have expressed their willingness to cooperate.

Looking to the future, the goal is to be more innovative and diversified.

In the future, Global Research & Industry Alliance (GloRIA) of Taipei Medical University will look forward to promoting international industry-academic cooperation, enhancing the international brand value and popularity of Taipei Medical University, and developing cooperation between Taipei Medical University and different industries with innovative business models. GloRIA hopes it can be more flexible and diversified to make the research results successfully industrialized, achieve sustainable development and to establish a biotechnology innovation ecosystem.
