Aprataxin is a protein encoded by APTX gene in human, and can protect DNA against genotoxic stress. The encoded protein has a potential to repair single-stranded DNA breaks by modifing the broken ends to prevent deleterious DNA recombination. It is one of the important regulatory proteins maintaining the integrity of genetic material.
