November 7, 1928: American Biologist Norton David Zinder was Born

Norton David Zinder (November 7, 1928 – February 3, 2012) was an American biologist who discovered that bacteriophage can carry bacterial genes from one bacterium to another leading to genetic recombination. Zinder named the process genetic transduction, and transduction became one of the most important concept in the development of genetic engineering. In 1966 Zinder was awarded the NAS Award in Molecular Biology from the National Academy of Sciences.
