2015年06月15日，英国伯明罕大学微生物与感染中心和加拿大安大略癌症中心的联合研究团队率先运用MinION掌上型定序设备完成大肠杆菌（ Escherichia coli）的定序，对于未来基因检验技术的轻便化和即时化具有指标性意义。
