《自然生物技術》（Nature Biotechnology）期刊在 2008 年 09 月 28 日刊登，盤尼西林黴菌 (Penicillium chrysogenum) 的全基因體完成定序，解析出盤尼西林黴菌共有大約 3,200 萬個鹼基。序列分析結果顯示許多對於提升盤尼西林抗生素生產效率有幫助的基因，並對抗生素的大規模生產有重大意義。
